let the tide wash it away

Her pointed muzzle was turned towards the waves, turned towards the only thing in nature that she could actually call kin. If she could, at any time, Selene would trust herself in the arms of the deep blue. The fires of hatred had all been quenched. Nothing remained in the pit of her stomach but the quiet angst, a feeling of defeated emotions for the lost she suffered. A lover taken away, a pack she had been removed so forcibly, so painfully. But at least it had brought her to something much different. People she could trust, like Fritz and the lot of the Corsairs. It was later than she thought, and likely Fritz was resting. They all had hard work to do, in a way. Disrupting his peace was surely wrong, a sin to the slender girl.

She didn't know what else to do. She had injured herself in the throes of a tantrum, an action of letting go. But like a living time-bomb, she had no idea when the next time would be. Who would be hurt? Maybe next time it won't just be her hand. Never did she want Fritz, or anyone else pay for the anguish and hurt building like sediment in her heart. It wasn't fair that way. Sel couldn't think of anyone else in the world who was more unfaithful than Hadley. He thought differently. His world was just not the same. Everything seemed to be generated from that space between his legs. She pitied Isa in a way, would it be her next? Having to deal with her life when the next girl comes in, played for some games under the covers, just to end up walking away with her kids? At least it wasn't her. Maybe getting out was the best solution. Amidst everything, the waves softly soothed everything the best they could. Moving in and out of the sands like a sympathetic creature, like a child wanting to be stroked, noticing the pain all happening around them. She considered a dip in the sea. Any infection in the cuts on her hand would be cleansed, another bonus the ocean gave her. But it wasn't worth it yet. However inviting and friendly the waters seemed: they would be cold.

Selene glanced up as a soft voice crept into her serene world. It was the Captain, Tobias seeming as sleep deprived as herself. She looked down at her hand, bandaged up and neat. As if she hadn't noticed it much before, caught up in everything. "Yeah, think they're fine...I try to take care of them..." She didn't see the being she had been so afraid of crossing, the chauvinistic man she had been confused about his aloofness. But someone else, maybe helping form the crew had become a good thing. One thing that the girl wanted so badly, was the Captain's respect. And maybe someday she could try at gaining his trust.

Her breath hushed as she glanced back out to the sea, under the soft mention of his words. She had to agree. There had never been a place where she was more inclined to head to when upset. "Yeah, it takes my breath away." Came the sincere answer from her long muzzle, staring out into the lapping waves, the way they calmly caressed the rocks, slipping over sand, whispering nighttime tidings to the rest of the world.

Sel began to see Tobias in a different way after that. With more kinship, more to see. The scars that littered his body spoke of conflict, the way he held himself spoke of times in the past of hardship. Like herself, they could likely call  themselves experienced at life. Not that she knew many of his stories, or tales. But the doe could feel it in a way, like a mutual standing. "Makes me feel better...Soothing the ocean is--" Like a magnetic force, it always brought her down to its shores. "The dreams brought me here--"
