Regner’s eyes shot wide open at Adelle’s words, his head whipping around abruptly to face her. He had had to go through a similar conversation several times in his life with his own children and had subconsciously harboured some foolish hope that he wouldn’t with Adelle.
”Oh, and who would this be?” he asked with a purposely calm voice, resisting the urge to find out who it was his granddaughter, his far too young granddaughter, was talking about and rip their spine clean out of their back. He reigned his temper in fornow; he had no idea if this was somebody being a creep or just anunreciprocated crush on Adelle’s part and in either case he didn’t want to upset her.
Waiting for Adelle to answer Regner set about getting himself more awake, stretching his arms above his head and swinging his legs out of the bed so he was sitting down atop the edge of it. Some space clear he patted the edge of the bed next to him, an invitation for Adelle to come up and sit with him while they spoke.
