How long had it been since he had last seen his mother? How long had he been traveling with Amy, hidden inside her cart and out of sight? Kohaku didn't know and slowly his memory was starting to fade. He remembered his mommy's face, her sweet voice, and kind eyes. He remembered how she used to scold him and snuggle with him. He remembered the taste of her milk and how much taller she was than him. But he was also forgetting things too. Kohaku now smelled like Amy, and he was forgetting how his mommy had smelled. He couldn't go to his own coat for reassurance anymore; she had all but disappeared. The tiny male was having the same problem with Lucia, whom he had begun to miss as well. At first it was great not having her around to bother him, but now he just wished he could play with his sister again.

Kohaku sat alone in a small clearing. Amy had just left him to go trade with some strange canine and didn't want him around to mess things up. Big puppy eyes searched the area, their orbs steadily changing color. His once puppy-blue eyes had started to change into a bluish green color. The camp held a few furs to sleep on and a big pile of burnt wood in the middle. Amy had left a snack for him, which he had eaten as soon as she turned around. With nothing to do and no one to play with, Kohaku's young mind became extremely bored and impatient.

Finally deciding that enough was enough, the tiny male sprinted into the forest. Although Amy had specifically told him to stay put, he couldn't take the wait. Kohaku bounded through the forest, running and playing as hard as any puppy. He jumped after grasshoppers, growling and making lots of noise. A tiny shrew caught the pup's eye as it scurried away from him. A wicked smile crossed his face as he lunged at the tiny mammal. It squeaked in surprise and easily evaded his pathetic attempt to capture it. Kohaku's tail wagged as the game commenced. He howled and chased after the shrew, scampering through the underbrush and tearing through the mud. Unfortunately, no matter how hard he tried he just couldn't catch the shrew.

Eventually, the chase ended by a tiny stream. The bubbling water flowed over tiny rocks and didn't even reach the puppy's knees. Giggling, Kohaku began to roll in the shallow water until his thin coat was soaked. Luckily, the day was warm enough to make the damp feeling pleasant. Once the colorful child was completely wet, he lay down in the stream and nipped at the bubbles as the passed over his paws.
