Confusion and guilt welled up inside the small puppy as he cowered behind his rock. One minute it had been all fun and games, the next minute some strange wolf was glaring at him. Kohaku didn't know what he had done wrong but he silently promised never to do it again. He had to be a good boy, or else his mommy would never take him back. Kohaku had only wanted to go out and play, was that so bad?

The large wolf heaved himself out of the stream and strode over to Kohaku. Water droplets fell behind the wolf as he walked and formed a perfect path from the stream. Kohaku whimpered some more and crouched lower to the ground. He shut his eyes tight and he waited for the scolding that he knew would come. Perhaps the big male would try to hurt him like Amy had threatened to do. Luckily, what came at the puppy was not a harsh scolding or a rough beating, but kind words. Black eye lids cracked open and the tiny male stared up at the large stranger. "Not mad?"

Satisfied that he wasn't going to get in trouble, the colorful puppy untangled himself and sniffed the stranger. His larger frame had settled down onto the ground, lowering the male to Kohaku's hight. A name was given to the pup and he tried his best to repeat the word to himself, "Ifral." Kohaku nodded his head, memorizing the sounds and how to put them together. Bright eye's looked up at the Itheral and his tail wagged a little. "Name Kohaku."

Kohaku opened his mouth to ask about Itheral's missing parts when the sound of footsteps cut him off. He turned his head and flicked is disproportionate ears to listen. A second later, his mommy appeared from the forest. No, not his mommy. Kohaku's tail dropped as he looked closely at the white wolf that had come to join them. She was round like the black male, but perhaps not as round. Her scent was different and smelled heavily of the forest they were in. The biggest difference between her and the puppy's mommy was that she wasn't pure white like his mommy and didn't have any bald patches. Her coat was a mix of whites and very light greys, with an especially dark patch on her back. She wasn't his mommy. His mommy hadn't come back to get him. "I heard some screaming, is everything alright?"
