Adara stood by as her master began talking to the woman about payment. It seemed she would be getting a new master today. The blonde woman led her over to her own wagon and ordered her to get in and not to come out. Assuming she already owned her, Adara quickly got into the wagon and watched silently as the woman slit her master’s throat. She wasn’t upset that he was killed, just nervous that she just became the slave of a killer. Would she have to kill others for this woman? She certainly hoped not.
Wanting to follow orders and not be punished, Adara could only sit in the wagon as the other slaves she had grown up with stayed tied to the burning wagon. She wanted to rush forward and help her friends, instead she stayed put and turned her back on the others as she kept her face emotionless. This would certainly be a new experience for her.
