Branches and brambles tugged at Neela's fur and ears as she ran full tilt through the undergrowth but she paid them no attention, focusing all of her natural inclination for running into working to its maximum, nostrils flared as she tracked the scent she was following through the night air while moving at full speed.
It was an obvious trap. The trail of blood was light and had led from practically under her window, Neela still had no idea how one of them had gotten close enough to spread it, and had long ago left Casa territory behind.
There was none of her usual fear about leaving the territory. She couldn’t allow it. Hey mind was wholly occupied with thoughts of the small child whose blood trail she was following, the happy, smiling girl she had met at the arte border one day, Jace's child. Leon was her son, but while she could forgive him attacks on herself she couldn't allow him to hurt Pandora. She still didn’t want to hurt her son but she couldn’t allow him to hurt an innocent just to get back at her. If Leon wanted a fight he would get one.
