Well, it seemed he had gone as far as he could go. He had traveled for a month now, at least he thought that’s how long it had been, and had now ended up at the sea. He could imagine what it might be like here in the winter time, cold and wet, but now in the spring it was inviting, the waves lapped at the shore spurred on by the breeze. Any other creature might have seen it as an excuse to nap the day away in the lazy sunshine, but not he; he saw the sparkling ocean water as a trap.
Ovidiu had been running, and though he had not seen or heard any sign of his pursuer in the last week, he could not shake the paranoia that he was still being hunted. The complete uncaring glint in that man’s eye as he had come at him with a skinning knife still haunted the tiger. How could someone be so ruthless that his life could mean absolutely nothing more than a paycheck? It gave him the chills, and made him very, very scared.
The large cat had followed the shoreline southward for several hours, but it seemed never-ending. He had waded through the calm surf, enjoying the feel of the saltwater on his large paws, plus it gave him an extra sense of protection, that his feline scent was being washed away. But along with this sense came the ignorance of scents, and he had not realized that he had passed any sort of border into claimed territory. There was not a soul to be seen, so he had no inkling at all that he was on pack lands.
Ovi, of course, was starving. The pangs of hunger had been a constant for weeks now. He had lost the layer of fat he had gained from cub-hood and now looked very lean. He was tired too, only resting here and there, and never deeply. How badly he wished he was home, lying in the cushions of his place in the sisters’ room. He missed them so much.
