Resided to the fact that he really had nowhere else to go but back the way he came, Ovi decided to rest in the surf. He laid on the threshold between dry sand and wet, letting the waves lap up his front paws and onto his chest. Like any other of his kind, he loved water, though he enjoyed fresh rather than salt. Still, the rhythmic wash of the waves was soothing, and the tiger found himself closing his eyes against the sun. He half dreamed then, letting his mind wander to better days, when he was with his adoptive family, and farther still, when he was still with his birth siblings.
His reverie was suddenly broken by the sound of hooves, and his eyes shot open and he jerked his head around to see the shape of three horses heading towards him, one mounted by a dog-woman. He stared, eyes wide as they neared, unable to move or think. How had he let them come so close to him? He was frightened, and the woman stopped a ways away and asked him if he could speak.
For a moment he said nothing, maybe he could just remain silent and she would lose interest, but he didn’t think she was in league with the trader, and he told himself that he had to start trusting strangers if he had any hope of surviving. Ovidiu stood and shook himself off, Um… yes, I can speak. My name is Ovidiu. He said timidly. He looked warily at the horses; he had never been comfortable around the large beasts, even though he easily could have taken down a full grown horse if he knew how. But these horses for some reason seemed larger then he remembered, then again, last time he had seen any he had been smaller he supposed.
