The mother's heart ached as she halfheartedly scanned the area. Just beyond hill lay her old pack lands where she had spent many months. Her puppies had been born and lost in the forests, and she had played with her friends in the cities. The strange and beautiful boarder had wilted into nothing and all of the canine scents that had marked Ichika as a pack had faded into nothing. Even so, the wounds on Kiara's heart had begun to heal and her pain was more of a dull ache. She missed Ichika and mourned the loss of her puppies, yet her sorrow no longer crushed her.

Birds softly sang and cicada's cried as the white wolf lay in the shade. The first grips of summer made the world to hot for a tundra wolf. Kiara's silent rest was disturbed by a mournful howl rang through the air. The saddened cry of a wolf dog called the arctic wolf's attention as recognition broke through her lethargic mind. Immediately, Kiara was on her feet and her muzzle was in the air. A stranger's scent floated on the wind, but it meant little. That was Neela's voice Kiara had heard, she was sure of it. Without any more hesitation, the white female shot off like an arrow towards her old friend.

It wasn't long before the young mother could clearly see the collie's long red fur. Kiara raced forward and announced her presence with an exuberant howl. The scarred female slowed as she approached, but her tail swung wildly in the air. Her bounding steps became little jumps as she moved along side the other with a jovial smile. "Neela!"
