Sirius by Nat

There was no burden, nor weight, within his heart. The events that Salvia had detailed to him were, in hindsight, unsurprising - He could surely not have expected less of her, the creature he had crafted from thistle and cunning. Eris and Larkspur had unknowingly given her to him, as a girl; He had known, the first time he had lain eyes on her, and her withering gaze had lifted. Salvia belonged to him, was almost as much his blood as the two sons Clover had born to him. She was his sword in the darkness, and as with most swords, her blade was double-edged. Eris had been weak, and had faltered beneath its bite where he had not. It was within the nature of the Tigress to test her chains, and once she had challenged him. Only death had awaited her beyond those walls, and Sirius knew her loyalty to him was now as strong as her father's had been; Stronger, for hers was not diluted with devotion to any gods. He was her god. And now, she was to know what such a thing meant.

He remained in his chamber, eyes lingering on the two small shapes huddled within the nest of furs. The eldest darkling would be his heir, and the weight of the kingdom would rest upon him one day, as this day it rested on Sirius. The younger was a fair creature, possessing his mother's handsomeness; To him would fall a life of luxury and decadence, a life of living within the shadow of his older kin. Such was the way of these things.

Salvia's call did not stir the king from his brooding, for although it was authoritative, it held no control over the likes of him. Acidic eyes glinted, vapid and cruel within the half-light of the throne room. And yet he waited, and brooded, and thought. Eris was loved by these people; She had secured the loyalty of many of them. Sirius did not fear their betrayal, for treason was not a thing accepted within his land, and this the people surely knew. But Salvia had never before had the power to command them so, and she did not, yet; Not truly. Her actions would determine if such a thing was to be.

He rose slowly, narrowed pupils still lingering on the two sleeping pups. They were so small, so fragile; Salvia had been such a creature, once. Black lips twitched mirthlessly. The tall man turned, his frame sharp and elegant, and strode to the doorway and out into the mild air beyond. A small gathering awaited; Those who had come to Salvia's call. He could scent the anxiety within the air, hidden fears and suspicions that glittered in the eyes of those present - Perhaps the sight of him would quell some of their worries. But he would voice no soothing words, no information for this sudden calling; Instead, his eyes moved to Salvia, and lingered pointedly upon her. His gaze was heavy, powerful, seeking to imbue her with these same things. In the next few moments, she would reveal to the pack her leadership, and they would either follow her or rise against her. He would offer her no aid with his voice, his silver tongue - But it was clear that the King, the Boss, had already made his decision. Eris was no longer strong enough to bear the responsibilities, to reap the rewards of being royalty. It was time for the reign of Salvia to begin.
