Dedication to the Birds

He took the exposed wrist, drawing a knife out. Very carefully he shaved the fur clean from where he would be placing the tattoo. The place that he would tattoo would be scarred, but for now he left a large patch open, making it easier for him to work through. Once the skin was smooth he backed up. It didn't take long for him to get a fire going. Heating the dagger he turned to the female, smiling sympathetically. This would hurt.

As quick as he could he used the dagger to burn the design that she wanted into her skin. The smell of burning flesh rose, and he knew that this would create the scarred area he had asked for. His skill was sharp, not a single area more burned than had to be done for the tattoo to exist. As soon as he was done he picked up a cloth and gently wiped at the area. The blistered skin laid there, peeling. Rubbing at it gently he worked his way to the flesh that would be tattooed.

Sighing he picked up a sharp needle. Dipping it in the white dye he carefully inserted it, and began to dye the skin. The pigment absorbed, creating the white outline for the bird. Again and again he had to repeat this task before it was finished. It took a long time before he was able to move onto the next part. The black was easy, though it covered much of the area. Her skin was already dark, but he wanted to make sure. The black ink darkened the skin even further, laboriously slow. The morning was almost over when he finished and started with the red. Afternoon had set in by the time the blue and red had been added.

Leaning back he examined his work. It had been done quite well. Painful, probably. But it was beautiful, capturing the drawing she had shown to him. You'll have to keep it really clean. He pulled out a small ointment, passing it to her. This will do the job. He hoped she appreciated how difficult that had been for him. Glancing up he gathered his materials together. I should get back to my pack. A perfect excuse to not see Skye.
