The Bees Need A Home, Too

Morning found him tightly curled up into a ball to ward off the chill that permeated the long abandoned building. His father still slumbered on as Honrin woke to the silent still world left behind by the humans. No birds sang in the sky nor did he hear the sounds of any other wolves nearby like he often did in Thornberry. He huffed and pulled himself to his feet with a grunt. Outside he looked around to make sure there were no other unwelcome strangers lurking about and then took care of business, watering a few hardy shrubs that clung to their lives in this barren wasteland.

Early morning didn't improve the look of the city much, now it was covered in a layer of hazy mist that gave everything a dreary grey appearance. Temo hadn't stirred in the brief time that Honrin had been gone so Honrin shifted swiftly into his optime form, flexing the dexterous hands that it gave him. He picked up the book that his dad had been reading the previous night before retiring and studied the aged yellow pages littered with beautiful color pictures and diagrams. He flicked through it idly, not understanding the vast majority of it, he didn't even know how the human word for bee looked like so was unable to identify it.

Time passed by him slowly and he remained absorbed in the book, more looking through the pictures and trying to make sense of them than actually reading it. His vivid golden eyes followed the sentences that were a mystery to him and every now and again he would congratulate himself for remembering or recognizing a word he did know.
