Keldava huffed and puffed as she raced through the woods as fast as she could keep her balance in Optime form, eyes glued to the deer escaping ahead of her, teeth bared in a snarl that had long ago lost its sound to exhaustion. While the youngling wolfdog had had decent success hunting in her Secui form hunting in Optime had been much less successful, something that annoyed her as being able to hunt AND carry the knives she used to skin her prey would be useful; not only saving her a mouthful of fur as she ate but giving her the valuable skins to trade with.
Unfortunately while Keldava had inproved her mastery of moving about in Optime form dramatically she still couldn’t move to the full speed that the form offered reliably and even if she could, she had a sense of suspicion that she still wouldn’t be fast enough to catch healthy prey. It was annoying; others certainly managed to hunt in their Optime forms and enjoy the convenience of having hands and tools to help with their meal but Keldava couldn’t figure out how they did it. It was almost inevitable that Keldava would fall, in this case she didn’t life her leg fast enough and caught it on a protruding root, sending her into the familiar position of “flat on her face”.
Keldava sighed and pushed herself up, shaking slightly to dislodge a blob of mud from her nose and throwing a snarl at the disappearing figure of the deer she had been chasing. Keldava WANTED to use her Optime form, she wanted to be a great hunter and warrior like Mahnaya but everything she did with the awkward form seemed to lead to failure. Everyone she had spoke to told her that things would get better as she got used to the form but sometimes it was hard to see that.
Discouraged, Keldava got up, brushed herself off and started to set off back to Arte, tail between her legs.
