Word Count :: 610 Forward dated to 17.07.12 If that's ok? Optime form (loinclothed). Pan, Gelar and one pup around. Near the river/stream thing?

Life was a little quieter now with only one pup remaining. Pangari had more time to herself and was playing and racing with Gelar a lot more, leaving Baird to look after her remaining pup. He was no longer suckling and purely on meat now, slivers of whatever Baird or Pan caught went to him, but he was showing some hunting instinct himself, catching insects. He had caught a small bird yesterday and had proudly paraded it for Baird and Pan to see. The dingo was very proud of the pup, knowing that he would be able to take care of himself once he left Bairds care. What made Baird even more happy was that the pup had presented the bird to his mother, showing a sense of duty. He was glad that the pup had picked up manners from him and Pan, he would credit Gelar as well, but the bird was as uncouth as it was possible to be.

Just as Baird was thinking about his rude kookaburra companion the bird swooped down out of the clear blue sky and snatched the kangaroo jerky from his hand-paw. Baird shouted in surprise and anger, leaping from the ground in an attempt to catch the bird, but Gelar simply flapped his wings and moved out of range, the jerky disappearing down his gullet. "Gelar, ya Bludger! You try that again and I'll pluck ya pretty tail feathers!" He shouted up at the bird, all he got in reply was a disbelieving cackle from the bird. He shook his head and flicked his eyes to the pup, "Don't you go getting ideas from him." He warned the pup. The little one shook his head, a movement he had learned from Baird and Pan, this made the dingo smile again, he sure was proud of his little pups.

Baird looked up and continued his wandering, he'd heard that there were old human settlements on the south-western coast, he was fascinated by the old human ways and loved to explore, so that's where he was headed, if he met other canines on the way then that was a bonus. Before long he scented a nearby pack, it seemed he couldn't go a days walk without encountering a pack in this part of the world, but he didn't mind really; packs meant canines and canines meant friends, or at least trade opportunities. He glanced over at the quoll pup, maybe somebody wanted a pup for a pet, he wasn't sure if he could part with his last little pup, but then he knew that Pan was getting tetchy about having her offspring around all the time. It wasn't in a quolls nature to have the kids around. While he had been lost in his thoughts he had come upon the pack borders, his foot-paws had stopped him automatically, knowing that wolves could be incredibly territorial. He had no wish to anger any of the local packs and it was there that he dithered, did he want to call out for someone or was he happy to wait and skirt around the packlands, hoping to meet someone?

He chose the latter, turning to his left and walking along the border of the packlands, far enough away from the scent marks to be respectful, but close enough to be seen. Soon enough he came across a river and decided that he could do with a rest. He settled himself on the river bank, dangling his hot foot-paws in the cool water and watching as Pan decided to play with her last remaining son, splashing around in a shallow puddle to his left. Gelar came and settled on Bairds shoulder.
