Vesper tensed slightly as the dark male began to clamber up to her branch, her claws buried lightly in the bark in case his weight brought them down—although she’d been careful to select a seat that could bear it. The times that she remembered how big the dusky coyote was made her uncomfortable, but after his two hundred plus pounds had stopped shifting around, she relaxed and shot him a smirk.
The scarred female peered at the liquid sloshing around in the bottle, her claws tapping lightly on its side, although she didn’t know what she was looking for, being no moonshine connoisseur by any means. All that mattered was that it would get them both drunk, and that fun times were to be had, especially since they weren’t bringing any emotional baggage to their drinking session this time.
She grinned when he proclaimed their good fortune, and she tossed her head back lightly when he asked her why she was here. She knew he wasn’t too fond of her birds, but she wasn’t fond of his horses, either, so it worked out; both animals were useful, anyway, for scouting and riding respectively. It didn’t matter, though. “Communing with the winged spirits,” she answered wryly, brushing some of her mane away from her face. It was getting longer than she liked, almost girlish, and that wouldn’t do.
Deciding that this was enough welcoming banter, Vesper made a grab at the neck of the bottle. Her first swig inevitably made her sputter, but she had more experience going into it this time, and she only muttered, “This stuff has to be from hell,” before shoving it back and wiping her mouth with her arm. It wouldn’t take them long to get tipsy; her throat and stomach already felt hot and spirited from that first burning gulp.
“So,” the Centurion said, just to start some intelligent conversation before it devolved into slurred phrases and giggles, “how are the kids?”
