The Fall of a Comrade
#9
Everyone began to back off, leaving the pup to guard the body as she wished. Paws digging down she kept growling as they left the area, standing as strong as she could. They wouldn't touch him. She had done her best to keep them away. Now he had to wake up. He had to come back. She'd done everything she could think of. Why wasn't he coming back? Why was he gone? Why wouldn't Grandpa wake up? Turning she began to dig at the wood, trying to uncover his body and bring him back out. He had to get up!

The call of her name brought her back around, hackles raised. She looked even larger than she normally did, snarling at the sole. She snapped forwards, but he was too strong. Every thrash was useless as she was picked up, held tightly in his arms. There were no words, just outbreaks of whines and growls as she kept struggling. The torch was knocked into the pile, Adelle staring wordlessly as Grandpa was erased from the world, burned beyond where she could bring him back. Carried away Adelle stared until she couldn't take it any longer, lifting her head and howling, a torn voice echoing through the air.
