fall behind

Her attention was drawn to Emmanuelle's horse, who began to grow restless; whickering softly and prancing a bit in place, as if there really was something to be worried about in the darkness. Emmanuelle seemed to think so as well, for she suggested that they move a bit farther away. Silently, Skye complied, moving further into the clearing, away from the dark, looming shadows. She wasn't usually afraid of the night, but something on the edge of her senses tingled, giving off warning signs.

She stared intently at the forests, eyes still and trained on the spaces between the trees that gave no light. Suddenly, in the corner of her eye, one of the shadows moved, a small shaking of a bush giving off sound in the silent clearing.

Without sparing any time, Skye ripped the dagger from her belt, brandishing the weapon clearly in the moonlight. "Show yourself!" she snarled, standing slightly in front of the Inferni woman. All pretenses of being relaxed were gone - her posture was straight and tall, her ears alert and perked, her tail raised in dominance against the strange figure in the night. She was not sure what caused her to move so aggressively - perhaps it was a motherly instinct, moving to protect both the innocent woman behind her as well as her - and Skye's own - unborn children.

In reply, there was nothing but a low, wheezing laugh.
