The bird continued to test him with pressure on its sharp claws but he made no more movements to threaten it. Doing so wasn’t helping. So he looked out on the road ahead and admired the mountain that marked his home. Even from this distance it was a looming figure on the horizon. It gave the Issum’s eyes a resting place while the rest of his body was still tense.

From below the cart called the voice of X’ies in his usual tone. Because he’d never heard anything near a raised voice of panic it was difficult to count on the urgency being in his voice if something was to go wrong with the animals. Jaden’s head swiftly turned to eye the wolf and pull something meaningful from his features. But it turned out that he was just posing one of his difficult questions. Jaden turned his attention back to the road ahead and grumbled to himself, a sound lost to the ambient banter of animals and travel. If his travel companion were asking this question, he truly wanted an answer. X’ies didn’t ask such things to be simply annoying or to provoke him unnecessarily. And he didn’t joke.

The way he said it, intentions of mating, made it sound like something mechanical. Did X’ies believe it was that simple? A hard question to answer but something else he didn’t wish to distract himself with now. With a sigh of slight agitation he answered, X’ies, why does that interest you?
