Rainy Day

OOC here!

Rain pounded at the ground like the beat of a thousand horses trudging on by. His shop was well protected against the wet assailant and he had no fear of it becoming flooded. He, himself had repaired the broken roof and the clogged guttering, attaching new shutters that he crafted himself and shaped. So young for him to be a chaser of so many skills and yet he was steadfast in his determination, never wavering from his chosen path. But now he was not using his skill at the carving and building arts for his own benefit, he was creating for his sister. Before him a long flowing cloak draped across his workbench.

A merchant child he had proven to be, he had been able to barter such a fine looking skin for a few scraps of bone and fragments of gems. He could be a persuader when he wished, so much more eloquent and poised than his mother or father. The fur had been dark brown but he had dyed it dark as night, dark as his sister's pelt. He had once recalled hearing his sister exclaim upon being so singularly colored, at not standing out like their Mahn or Pandora or even Himself for in the night his coat gleamed silver under the moon. Instead he would make her shine like the moon goddess she was.

It was black yes but it was what was attached to it that made it gleam so brightly. Those gems he had found, what was left of them, a motley collection of sapphires and diamonds, ground up small to create a shimmering blue and ice backdrop on top of the black like so many stars in the night sky. Upon his latest excursion to Halifax and its surrounding houses he had been fortunate to come across a shining ball of hard glass that shimmered, unknown to Honrin the humans had called it a disco ball and it was created purely to refract the light. He had broken the ball up into smaller flatter pieces that were larger than the gem fragments. These he attached to the cloak with small string and a bone needle. Next he had found shards of colored glass that had fallen from a chuch window and shattered against the floor. These rainbow shards he also attached in varying sizes, each ground smooth and even so it would not cut Dalgina.

When at last his masterpiece was completed he held it up to the light, the candle he had lit and the cloak shone and sparkled with the light of all the sparkling objects attached to it, leaving starbursts of color dancing around the walls whenever he moved it. He looked at it with wonder and pride, unable to believe he had created such a thing. Now to deliver his gift.

It was not a far trek to their mother's house from his own workshop but he spent it hunched over trying to keep the gift from getting wet. He had bundled it up and wrapped it in a paper outer covering with a sliver of ribbon as a tie to keep it shut. It would be a surprise like she had never received before. It was dark within the family home when he opened the door and only the flickering of candles illuminated the darkness. there was no other sound apart from the driving rain and the soft tinkling of metal and jewellery and he knew Dalgina was looking through her collection.

'Dalgina? I have something for you' He called out even as he walked towards where she was.
