OOC: Epic long post! WC: 900+

It was getting harder and harder to stay put in New Dawn and not go out to massacre the stupid, blonde bitch that had been tormenting her sisters. With her freedom from the den secured and things with Augustus going well (except for the lack of sex, whoops) the Epsilon should have been happier. It was like she was in business mode, her only thought protecting her pack, her mate, her family. She would normally take the night shift of patrolling the borders while Augustus took the day, their intimacy consisting of brief nuzzles and licks, happy and pining whines, before they’d vanish to do their duty. When Augustus arrived back in the den that particular evening, he looked wearier than ever, causing the golden girl to whine sweetly to him and lick over his cheeks in an effort to soothe him. It was tough business, but it had to be done.

This day they’d exchanged shifts in an effort to switch things up, to throw a wrench in the monotony of the day. It was cloudy and miserable, no sun to warm the golden fur that had only seen night for weeks. As she roamed the borders, refortifying the scent markers and ensuring there were no intruders she thought about her chances against the Saunders bitch. Surely the dog wouldn’t be a match like the cougar had been. It had taken her strength and Augustus’ combined, and had nearly cost her life, but she’d won. She had delivered the cat’s heart to Zalen, and she vowed she’d see Amy’s heart torn from her body before the ordeal was over. Her veins hummed with anticipation of war. This was what she was born for, the battle, the duty. She was the pack’s golden warrior, the Athena of New Dawn. All of this border-guarding shit could stop any day now, and the real fight could begin.

It was with a huff that Ciara lifted herself to two paws to sniff at a suspiciously broken tree branch. From this vantage point she could look around and spot anyone coming. The borders seemed safe, the pack was secure, but what was lurking just outside? Surely if she left the pack lands she’d hear about it from Augustus, and if she was actually in trouble with him his stern glares and commanding tones would definitely win. She was too tired from patrolling all the time to be able to stand up to him like she had the day she’d gained freedom from the den. Still…had anyone checked the territories that surrounded New Dawn? Would Augustus really know if she slipped out, even for a few hours, just to make sure things were okay?

Ciara took that chance. Coming to the northern borders she skipped past the line and threw a glance over her shoulder. Comically, she’d been expecting to see Augustus come barrelling towards her all snarls and growls to drag her back into the territory, cursing her out for leaving alone. Apparently her mate was secure and sleeping in the den, however, and her little adventure investigation would go ahead. She walked out into the woods, her paws carrying her noiselessly across the forest terrain, for what felt like hours. Eventually she passed onto the Black River Reserve, and it was there that a scent caught her nose. She smelled dog.

Immediately the Epsilon dropped into a crouch behind some brush as she tried to detect where the scent was coming from. It took her a few minutes to determine it wasn’t Saunders, but a wolfdog. Male, by the smell of it. Considerably young…and Luperci. She tensed. Life in New Dawn meant not seeing the Optime form too much, but she could smell cloth on the man and figured he must be using that form. She was inexperienced, but at the very least shifting would give her a bit more height to posture with. Keeping from sight and smell of the strange male, Ciara closed her eyes and began the long and painful process of shifting. Her hind legs cracked and lengthened, her spine straightened out and her front paws turned humanoid. Soon she was standing on two paws instead of four, holding herself unsteadily against a tree while she gained her balance. After a few cautious steps, the girl could walk as though she’d been doing it all her life. Graceful by nature, her Optime form was something to behold. The golden pattern of her lupine form transferred nicely to her Optime, making it look as though she were wearing a cloak of gold, contrasting against the dark guard hairs and the pure white of her belly. Her eyes seemed to shine more fiercely in this form, her figure curved and lithe.

When she was satisfied that she looked confident, Ciara strolled towards the strange male. She let out a short bark to announce her presence and then perked her ears forward, staring at the multi-coloured male she was now standing in front of. He looked cozy against the brush, but these were dangerous times and an interrogation was needed. “You there,” she barked out, her voice an odd mix of soft tones with an alert, slightly authoritative inflection. “I am Ciara, an Epsilon of New Dawn,” she explained, canting her head to the side as she studied the wolf dog. Unlike some of her pack mates, Ciara’s gaze didn’t hold the scrutiny at his being part dog. She was merely curious as to why he was so close to their pack lands. “Who are you?”
