Sonje by Sie!
Sonje Helsi had kept to Halifax for the better part of the week, picking up things she found useful or interesting. She perhaps wasn't searching that well, entering most buildings but only scanning them briefly before leaving, so she missed out on a lot due to her own naive devices. Side-streets beneath a highway had brought her to the doom-wracked warehouse district, a place she found more opportune than unsettling. The wolfdog spent two nights there, wandering through the massive structures, checking out the old, dilapidated machinery and climbing stairs to check out uninteresting offices and supply closets. It was her third day amongst the gritty setting and she'd been walking along a hanging path on the east side of the structure when she saw him pad in.
He was hesitant as she watched, nervous maybe, and she leaned interestedly forward, propping her elbows lightly on the decaying bar stretching horizontal to keep from going over. She watched his slow progress, and though he didn't notice her up there, she wasn't hiding and couldn't help the soft snicker as she saw him become embarrassingly startled by an equally as startled cat, the same cat she'd tried to eat an hour ago. She watched the wolf give chase, noting the way his tail curled in his excitement. You won't catch it,
she said loudly after watching him for over a minute. As the echo of her voice died, Sonje pushed herself off the rusty bar and began to saunter towards the stairs again, descending them two at a time but stopping two-thirds of the way down and addressing him (in precaution) from the stairwell.
"I mean, you're only wasting your time. That thing lives here. You'll never outsmart it with those clumsy tactics," she chided with a lazy wave of her hand. She was dismissive of the task, if only because she'd failed at it herself and no longer saw worth in the task being done. Cats probably didn't taste that good anyway, she thought disdainfully.
