Claws clicked and skidded on the concrete floor of the warehouse as the wolfdog pursued the mangy tabby, his tongue lolling from his jaws. Several times, the feline turned sharp as a dime and took advantage of its small size to elude him, which more often than not sent the canine skidding clumsily along the floor until he regained balance and momentum. The excitement never left his eyes, and deep barks still rose up from his pale chest, at least until a voice called to him.
Skoll slid to a stop, his head cocked boyishly as he searched for the owner of the voice, completely ignorant of the tabby bolting up a precarious set of smaller crates to safety. He found the luperci on the stairs at last, and flicked his tail out behind him as he took a few careful steps in her direction. She looked to be about his age, brown-furred and willowy, and he allowed himself a friendly grin as he naively decided she shouldn’t be a threat.
Her criticism only made him frown. “What? I didn’t want to catch it. I just wanted to chase it for fun.” He snorted, his malamute tail curling over his back again as he looked (in vain) for where the cat had disappeared to. What would he ever do with a cat if he caught it? It wasn’t like he’d be able to take the feral creature back to the Court for a pet, like Alder’s kitten Hickory. And eating the cat was wrong, just like eating horses was wrong.
The young Haskel smiled again, suddenly, and threw her his best cocky grin. “So what are you doing here, babe, if not chasing cats?” He wasn’t really sure where all his words came from, but he didn’t question them. He was starting to fit into his own place in the world, and if it meant talking to girls with this faux confidence, he was fine with it.
