Itzal watched Kohaku carefully. He could see the pup trying to come to a decision about something. Itzal could only assume Kohaku was trying to decided to answer Itzal's questions or not, but Itzal couldn't be sure. Itzal could tell when he finally came to a decision and sat back to listen to Kohaku explain himself. It seemed like he spoke fast as the words seemed to just come out of the pup. Itzal found himself trying to catch everything the pup said and work through it. So Amy raised Kohaku. And was like a mother to him. That was nice. In a way Itzal could never understand. His own mother had been murdered. And no one else had cared about him.
Itzal smiled when Kohaku mentioned being a good wolf. If only he knew how hard that actually was. "And where is Amy right now? And do good wolves steal other people's food?" Itzal asked with a raised eyebrow. Itzal didn't care that Kohaku had stolen the food. Itzal would probably have done much worse. Like killing the butcher and eating him instead. So maybe Kohaku was more good than he realized.
Itzal cocked his head to the side as he considered Kohaku's question. It seemed like exactly the kind of thing a pup would ask. Itzal pretended to think about it for a second before he finally smiled and sighed, "Yeah, I'll be your friend." He said, chuckling softly. "Does that mean you are my friend too?" he asked with faked innocence. Itzal was far past believing friendship was that easy but he didn't have to ruin it for the pup yet.
