Several days had passed since Amy had picked Kohaku up from the boarders of Cour des Miracles for his very first mission. The very mission that he failed. Kohaku was supposed to have infiltrated their ranks for a week and gain as much knowledge as he could. Instead, the pup had found himself with very little information and no one to care for him. Needless to say, he had gone hungry that week.
On top of his failed mission, Amy had become so large that she couldn't travel. She yelled and screamed every chance she got so Kohaku turned to the woods in search of food. He had traveled for a long time, trying in vain to catch anything he could. All of Amy's lessons ran through his mind. She had taught him how to spy, how to get information out of others, what plants were poisonous, and how to always be confident. Nothing too useful when it came to hunting.
The scent of a mouse scuttling by caught the overgrown pups attention. His oversized ears flicked and his sensitive nose twitched as he looked around, trying to find its location. There. The pup lunged, his jaws wide open as his whole body rocketed forward. With a crunch, the mouse was his. Kohaku smiled, happily enjoyed the small meal while his tail wagged freely. Then he remember that it wasn't him he was hunting for and depression sank in. Catching food was harder if he couldn't just eat it.
Just as Kohaku finished swallowing, an unfamiliar voice drifted through the forest. The voice was male and called out his name and then hers. The boy froze, anger welling up in him as his black lips pulled back into a snarl. His mother. Bravely, the young male moved out of the underbrush and in the direction of the stranger.
Riding atop a horse was a three legged luperci, his massive body covered in scars. "Who'r you? Why do you know my name? What do you want?" Kohaku's ears and tail were raised high. Even if he wasn't a luperci, he wouldn't show fear to the stranger who knew his cruel mother.
