One love, for the Mother's pride

Actually not 100% sure whether Vesper'd know that Io came to IF, but blaahhhhh. (Sie, if you are stalking this and this is wrong, slap me.) Anyway, this is a bit awkward since Vesper is just lurking around the borders instead of calling or anything; I can change to a different scenario if you want.

Vesper was reluctant to leave Inferni behind, yet she found herself traveling farther south than she thought she would be comfortable with. A cruel sort of resolve kept her moving, an emotion completely at odds with the soft one calling her back. She wanted nothing more than to be able to race home, sneak into the village, and surprise her Aquila with a playful visit. Since they’d more properly confessed their feelings for each other, she longed to be with the other woman every moment she could—but she knew that their position as leaders did not allow that. They had duties to the clan, and they could not simply toss those aside to indulge in romance.

As another Lykoi had done recently—Helotes’ brother Jacinto, who’d bedded an outsider then forsaken the clan to raise the bastard pup. Vesper had not taken the news well, although she respected that Myrika respected the decision. In her opinion, blood family meant nothing; you needed a mother to suckle you, but once you were grown, it didn’t matter; and it certainly didn’t matter if your father was absent. Her own upbringing had taught her that, as she’d been alone from the get-go, cared for briefly by her feral mother before she became the caretaker in turn.

Apparently the mother of this child had come to Inferni, bearing gifts and proof that Jacinto hadn’t simply abandoned the clan, but Vesper was not entirely convinced. Betrayal was one of her greatest fears, and while she wasn’t absolutely paranoid, the situation was suspect enough for her cynicism to be justified. She wanted to come and check on the Tribe to be completely sure, although she didn’t quite know how to go about that. Outright spying was ridiculous, but asking questions would reveal that she didn’t trust the word of the AniWaya leader. Neither would help relations with the clan.

Conflicted as she was, Vesper did not directly approach the borders or call out once she padded into the Reserve surrounding the Tribelands. She only waited, resting her weary body and wondering what she should do next, curled up in her lupus form a decent enough distance from the border.
