Warm loving feeling? Forced affection? Not how mates were meant to be? For him, a mate was one he would bond with for life. He didn't understand why that feeling would fade. The lack of trust was understandable. Who was to say that Ookami wasn't going around mating with other females when he wasn't around? He hadn't been here when Adonia had been in heat though, so that was probably not why he kept vanishing. He was simply unreliable, not one to count on. A weakness in the pack. Her admittance of missing having a mate was something he understood. After all, they were supposed to be for life. What did it mean when that ended?
Her words were foolish. We are pack. Did she not understand that? Her pain was the pack's pain. That was how life was. Stepping close he nuzzled against her, trying to impart some level of comfort. The sorrow in her frame was so clear. You're not alone. He would be there for her. If she needed it, asked him for something, Tharin would get it. He didn't want her to hurt in this way, he wanted to make things better. What would it be like if his own mate abandoned him? It would hurt, but like all hurts, it would heal and be left in the past. Adonia would need their support until then at least.
His warm body pressed against hers, wishing that she hadn't chosen someone so unreliable as a mate. Someone who wouldn't give her this pain. Tilting his head he listened as Jiva described the tea. A healer? There had been no such rank in his previous pack. If he recalled correctly, that was someone to take pain away. He watched curiously as the tea was made, shaking his head. No thanks. He wasn't sure if he really wanted anything to do with the funny smelling liquid.
Family comes first.
