Her gait was carefully chosen as they walked down the beaten path, steps adjusted to keep pace with her daughter so the little girl would not get too worn out. Luckily, the Fairy Lights was not far from their home, placed near Lunenburg, and it was not long until the glow of the flowery field was seen before them. “Yes, the Fairy Lights, it’s a magical place here in the Court,” she told her daughter, leaving it at that and letting her imagination run wild with the mystery of what they would soon find.

Eyes cast ahead, the moonlight poured down over the field, lighting up the colorful array of wildflowers that bloomed. With all the flora the place was fragrant, the most appeasing scent was probably that coming from the night blooming lilies. This place was a pretty, yet relatively normal field during the day. But at night it was pure wonder.

She looked down at her daughter in time to watch her azure eyes light up, drinking in the vision of the field. This made the mother snicker softly, the wide smile never leaving her face. As she had hoped, the fireflies floated lazily about, sometimes coming low enough to kiss a blessed flower before taking flight again. They had Svetlana enraptured. “They are not stars, my darling. They are fireflies.”

She guessed her daughter would just come back with ‘what are fireflies’ so she continued, “Some people say they’re just bugs, but obviously they’re not.” She turned to look out before them again. Prancing forward, Orin trotted out into the center of the field; the flowers and reeds came up to her belly, at least, some even taller. Eventually her paces slowed and she looked up at the glowing dots that surrounded them. “They’re the only thing of their kind, bugs don’t simply just glow. It’s silly to call them just bugs. They’re descendants of the fairies. You sister Titania loved fairies, she used to talk to them, she probably still does. And Juliet,” she glanced around the field. “She loves flowers. I hope one day they will both visit us so we can all come here together.”

Turning away from the sight of the fireflies, and the milky way’s luminance beyond them, she looked to her daughte’s face again.
