It had only been several days since Titania had gone missing, but already he was beginning to feel some semblance of normality. At first he had been sad, as if she had died, but the evidence left behind showed that she was quite alive, just nowhere near New Dawn. He was quite sure, however, that she did not plan on returning, otherwise she would have done so already. So, he had to resign himself to the fact that she had abandoned them, simultaneously severing her responsibility to the pack and her mate-ship to him. It would take some getting used to, but Zalen was already finding himself coming back into his prime.
Today he had taken to scent marking within the territory, as opposed to the already fragrant markings of the borders. This was his way of establishing himself of Alpha male once more, and his musk was strong and made it clear who was boss here. He was beginning to find himself becoming wary of the other males in New Dawn, especially the unpaired ones like Tharin and Shadowfang. The other males he paid little mind to, but his attention on their mate-ships and possibility of them bearing children was starting to become an issue once more. When Titania had been here and pregnant, the relations of others were not as important; it was different now.
Zalen found himself heading towards the Sunrise Meadow, and he trotted along the broken path of the old human highway. He usually didn’t like to walk here, but something about the rough pavement felt good on his paws. Suddenly, a distant bark rang out and he perked his ears at it, and saw in the distance Adonia running through the field. He immediately turned and began loping towards her, his ears and tail erect. She was playing, and he felt the sudden urge to join.
