Life and How to Live It

Even although the man was deaf, there was a lot to be expressed in the silence. Scents and simple emotions conveyed a lot in the air; Element could almost sense the man's anger, then sadness, as he thought back to his past. Although the words that he wrote did not say much, Element could scent the sadness and almost the resentment in Edgar's presence, as if his family did not care much for him at all, or did not try.

Without writing more for the moment, Element brushed lightly against Edgar, attempting to comfort the man. He rubbed against him more, just as the man had pet him earlier. It was difficult for Element to write, and sometimes, nonverbal speaking worked just as well. They were similar - both only slightly out of place in a world of talking, hearing canines who dominated the planet. Element himself could remember his mother, but barely - the life of a cat was mostly a solitary one.
