He had kept a close eye on her, much closer than he even on Titania. Something about being attracted to a female that was not mated made things more difficult; he truly did not have a claim to her, yet, neither did any other male, which made him her sole provider and protector. He had had trouble sleeping the several nights since their romp through the fields and surf, because he had been constantly vigilant, watching her as she slept, making sure no other males came to her in the night because of the slowly heightening heat scent. Then, just at the breaking point, she had removed herself from the den. Zalen watched with hungry eyes as she walked away, extremely away of the feminine nature of her motions. It caused his blood to run hot and his vision to swim; it made him want to lash out at the nearest male. He had to get out of there.
When he exited, he was nearly tempted to follow her, but he knew he had to get away from it just for a moment. So, he headed upwind from her, so the estrus smell was not as strong. But he lingered in the area, always aware of where she was, in a sense. He busied himself with scent marking the surrounding area, his musk making it clear who was boss and that Adonia was his; his, his, his! It was maddening, he was going mad!
And then, the sound of whimpering, and the smell was so strong. Zalen began panting, breathing through his mouth so he could keep some semblance of sanity; but she was so close he could basically taste the sickly sweet scent. He could no longer take it, and he turned to seek her out. They had been no more than a quarter mile from each other, and as he broke through the trees to her he did not stop, but instead, moved to flank her and grabbed hold of her scruff gently in his jaws, a dominant yet soothing growl erupting from his throat.
