Lilin returned the sentiment, and Shiloh allowed another pretense of a smile before deciding that that act had gotten dull. It normally wasn’t hard for her to put on a polite face, but she knew that she overdid it, sometimes: and a too-sweet front was just as off-putting as an obviously rude one. She let her expression grow more subtle, and her mind lay in wait for a topic that was far more interesting than this dull banter.

The Virding provided one: Crow Stormbringer. She wanted to correct her, say that Crow was their grandfather—or at least great-grandfather in the white-furred woman’s case. Instead, she thought back to the old wolf and let a more genuine smile touch her lips. “He’s doing very well, if a little slower these days.” She shrugged to show that this wasn’t anything to worry about, only the process of aging. “He stepped down from Alphaship,” she added, not sure that Lilin knew this or if it would be important to her. “Wraith leads now.” She was fond of her uncle, even if she didn’t know him very well.

She fell silent then, wondering what else to say, before a wry grin quirked her mouth. She gestured to the other’s dress with considerable envy, feeling that her own was plain in comparison. “Where did you find that? It’s gorgeous.” Even if it didn’t fit her as well as it might have, considering her big tummy. She tried not to let her eyes linger there, not sure how to approach the subject of incestual pups yet.

Then she paused, and grinned again, deciding she might as well give as much of an impression as she could and draw conclusions about the two-toned woman after their conversation. “Saul’s lying about me being a vain princess,” she added ironically, giving a little prissy toss of her pale blonde head. “I swear it.”
