Sorry for the wait!

Levent was amused by the antics of goose and cat, but he continued to watch the dog out of the corner of his eye even as he turned to soothe the rather grouchy Wilson. He was beginning to explain to the goose, in rather stunted low speech, that while he might make friends the cat wouldn’t, when the boy grabbed for a notepad suddenly and began to write.

A less civilized luperci might have thought the dog was crazy, but Lev only frowned momentarily and waited patiently until the writing was finished. He’d already leaned forward slightly and took the writing pad when the dog offered it to him, his blue eyes scanning over the words in silence. Realization dawned on him, and he nodded quickly to acknowledge the first statement: the dog, Edgar, was deaf. It was a tragic disability in most parts of the wilderness, as not many of the more feral luperci would survive. Seeing deaf luperci in Europe was a bit more common, especially in places where a standardized sign language had developed, but unfortunately Lev didn’t know any of this—and so he was glad for the writing.

He posed the question to Wilson in a calm meow, and the cat seemed to understand what the situation was. With one last uncertain glance at the goose, he slinked out from behind his friend and approached the boy, his tail raised high in friendly greeting before rubbing his cheek against the boy’s arm. Meanwhile, the merchant started to scribble down his own words—praying that Edgar would be able to read his absolutely sloppy penmanship. He slowed down enough to make it legible, though, and handed it to him:

I am Levent, and the cat is named Wilson.
