ooc: I'm trying to make this one longer so that I get 1000 words, I'm always stuck around 260 or 270 >.<

His heart skipped a beat when the scent of Hati came up from behind him. The young male was so excited to spend this new life of his with Hati; he never would have guessed that it would be very soon cut short. The dog's thin body felt warmer as Hati's strong arms pulled him back into a hug. Edgar enjoyed this life too, it was too good to be true, there was nothing that made him unhappy at the moment; just the fact that they were almost out of cherries. He smiled at the thought of Hati out in the woods track them down for him; he at times felt embarrassed that he wasn't able to do more. As time passed, Edgar found that the woods became more dangerous. There were several times where luperci had sneaked up on Edgar to steal from him. Luckily, Hati was there at every one of those times to protect him; though he was a peaceful man and never actually fought. He liked that about him. Well, that's a bit of an understatement; he loved everything about him. He wished that he could tell him at the moment how much he really loved him and just how he was such a blessing to have after all those moments in his life when he felt like he could barely hang on. Suddenly, he felt the young man's head lift off of his shoulder. Was something wrong? No, he was turning back toward him. This time Edgar had turned to face his mate; eyes bright and an eager smile on his face. The spaniel gently pulled the male closer to him and went up on the tips of his toes, trying to make eye contact with him. He felt instantly relieved of all the pain in his past when his eyes met Hati's. Hati had that calming effect. The dog placed a soft kiss at the side of his lover's dark maw. Death would come to both of them that evening.
