[MaMa] don't let go

Edgar turned to face him with the sweetest smile gracing his lips, those copper eyes shining with adoration. Hati willingly let himself be pulled in close, his pale blue gaze riveted irresistibly on his mate. He felt so possessive sometimes, he just wanted to wrap his arms around the dog and never let him go. There was something so fragile and petite about his features, but so much spirit blazing behind those eyes, an intelligence and wisdom beyond his years. Hati closed his eyes as the kiss softly brushed against the side of his muzzle, sliding his hands through Edgar's silky fur until they rested on the small of his back, just above his little stub of a tail. He exhaled softly, kissing the spaniel's cheek, tracing his lips down to the delicate curve of his white throat. This intimacy was what brought him solace, even when he left his pack and family to live in the wilderness. Never once did he regret choosing Edgar.

Hati raised a hand to stroke the spaniel's soft ears affectionately, a familiar habit. He wanted to prolong the closeness, let it lead them somewhere deeper, but he was distracted again. The honking sounds outside had not ceased; the capricious bird was having some sort of tantrum, and it sounded like she might be on their roof. She had never had trouble flying when she wanted to, which was admittedly an infrequent occurrence, but it was possible she had injured herself or gotten stuck somehow. Hati frowned, unable to ignore the goose's plight any longer in good conscience. He was too sensitive to the suffering of others, regardless of their species. He had always been that way. Reluctantly Hati slipped from the embrace, moving to pick up a nearby pad of paper and a stick of charcoal to scrawl a message.

Your goose friend is making a fuss outside. I will check on her in a moment to make sure she is all right.

The chill of autumn was a welcome one for Hati -- his thick fur was built to withstand the harshest of winters, and it was a relief that the warm seasons were coming to an end. Today, though, he was strangely hesitant to step outdoors. He wanted to stay by Edgar's side, and lingered in the kitchen with a wistful look before handing his mate the notebook. It would only take a moment.
