Isabella swayed under the influence of the smoke, letting the curling tendrils of pearly airborne ash swirl and whorl in the breeze. Her eyes were shut tight against the hot curls as they warmed her face. The flames were miniscule if even there; the ends of the incense sticks were glowing muted crimson, and every time she breathed they flared gold. Maw opened wide, she let the smoke curl into her mouth and she tasted the Mother's energy on her tongue as the tendrils flicked over her tongue. With a quick intake, she exhaled, shooting smoke out into the air. It was a strange little ritual she did, but it was the only way she knew how to honor the Mother's fiery tendencies, and this place was a firetrap in the dry months.
But the incense stick ran out, the last of the fragrant end burning to a pile of ash. She stared at it sullenly, resting on her legs beneath her. It was her last one and it was hardly going to be a good session of worship if she did not have enough to burn. With a grumble, the curvacious woman rose to her feet. There were bits of grass on her knees, and headed in search of that man.
A touch to her belly, and the woman furrowed her brows. Where was that man, that creature she called a mate? A pale white figure approached her, appearance humble, and she let her solemn look soften. Kaoru bobbed his head at his mistress as she asked him where the Thorn in her side was. He gave a serene smile, calm and quiet and knowing. "This way, mistress. Master is here," he said softly, making Isabella tighten her lips once more. "Thorn? Where are you?" she called, her voice demanding as the slave led the way before her. She was all haughty indignity, as though she had been waiting for him and he was the one who was late.
