It was a mateship that Thorn truly hadn't seen coming. He was all for rather dominant and female lead relationships, the mother of his offspring back in Russia was exactly that, but falling muzzle over paws for someone her demeanour and her age was rather unusual wasn't it? Not that the white Russian had ever been "usual", whatever that meant, but there were times when he had to question everything around him. The slave that waited on her, her rituals that reminded him of home and her need to prove he was wrong whenever he was. Then he indulged in his secret stash and all his worries and questions floated away in so much smoke and wonder.
Thorn had spent most of his morning field dressing and cubing two rabbits he had helped to catch. Then gathering herbs, wild root vegetables and firewood to complete the course. He had hoped to put together a meal for his mate and himself with perhaps enough left over for the slave that seemed to keep the two of them apart enough to allow their love to work. He had always believed in random shows of affection and wondered now if that was part of their love. The older male had even scavenged what he hoped would make good incense for Izzy and by melding it with rabbit fat it would burn slower and could serve for more rituals. Keeping the good bits of the rabbit and setting them aside for raw eating, the fire was started and Thorn crouched in front of it.
Looking up to see Kaoru in the distance approaching with Izzy the male let a smile burst onto his muzzle. Then hearing her voice Thorn felt a warm feeling move into his stomach. Possibly indigestion, more than likely love and longing. Standing, Thorn walked over and with his tail swishing behind him said in accented english, "sorry you're late, m'love." He grinned like a loon, before putting his arm behind her and turning in the direction of the food and fire. "I've been playing chef today."
