She had been following him for most of the way. She should’ve been leading him to her father, not the way that it was going, but she let him feel important. Anything for love, she guessed. She followed quietly behind him mostly enjoying the scenery because Gabriel had his nose glued to the ground – sniffing away.
It had been a while since she first met him – and how they met was peculiar. Nothing had ever developed for her from a random encounter – like from the one she met him in. They clicked right away and that was when she knew he would save her – save her from all of her pending problems and save her from herself. He was older than she was, but that didn’t bother Axelle none. She felt he had more experience in the world and she knew he would be able to teach her and show her many things that she still remained ignorant to.
His abrupt pause broke her from her thoughts. She stopped just behind him, bending down to rest a hand on one of his scarred shoulders. Her eyes scanned the horizon and she noticed the remains of the campsite as well. ”What is it?” Just in case he had more on the subject than what was before her eyes.
Scenting the faint smell of a burning fire in the air made her blood boil. It seemed that they had just missed him. A low growl rumbled in her chest as she straightened to walk over to the site. She poked around the small patch of bare land and kicked a few sticks out of her path. Anger burned in her eyes as she broke her stare from the dwindling fire to the way that he must’ve gone. ”He can’t be far.” Her voice was as calm as ever, but it did have a sinister tone to it. She began to march in the direction she believed was his scent. ”See if you can scent him, babe!” She called back to Gabe as she marched onward.
