Terra

Word Count → 000 :: Out of Character text.

Kable might not know what he was doing, but Terra cared little at this point. The storm was raging all around them, and the chance to get her mind off of it and focus instead on the poor male's reactions was one she would take. Kable's body blocked the worst of the storm from where Terra and the pups crouched, so she was able to relax a little more. Terra would prefer that they'd found a nice cave to shelter in. If only it hadn't come up so fast. Then she could have spent more time picking out what she wanted.

It's about when Coyote decided to earn her food for the first time. Her tail swayed as Loki and Ananse looked up, listening as she warmed up to her subject. Coyote always works hard for her meals, but no one appreciates it. They don't think that tricking others out of their food is truly working hard. Coyote didn't like that no one appreciated her work, so she decided that she would earn her food. She would still take from others, but she would give them something in exchange.

Her voice was loud and boisterous, almost challenging the storm as she spoke over it. Terra was determined to let the world of her tale take over in the shed, forceful emotion in every word. So she decided to tell fortunes. Creatures from all across the land would come. Coyote would stare at their reflection in the water, and she would tell them what she saw for them. She would then take food to eat. Everyone was happy, and Coyote's plan was working.

Not everyone accepted Coyote's fortunes as real. As amazing as Coyote is, she can't see the future. She was simply playing the same game she always had, guessing what others would do and telling them that. Cougar thought that she was playing them all false, and showed up, as angry as could be. She would be sly though, and brought a large carcass with her as payment for Coyote's fortune telling. She talked sweetly, convincing those that were there that she truly just wanted her fortune told. Coyote knew better though, and figured out a plan.

Coyote smiled, acting happy to see Cougar. "Why Cougar! It's wonderful to see you!" The great cat licked her lips, smiling. "Of course I came to see you, Coyote. When I heard that you were telling fortunes I just had to come along. I brought you a lovely moose as payment, see?" Coyote admired the moose, nodding her head happily. It was a rather delicious looking kill. She'd have to be careful if she was going to get it.

"Of course." Bending down Coyote stared into the water. "Oh, Cougar! There's no luck in your future. The hunters are coming, and they want to take your pelt to stay warm. Your tail shall be caught and tangled." At this Cougar grew angry. She knew that Coyote was lying. Hissing she leaped forwards, but Coyote was quick. She twisted through a gap, and set it up so that Cougar's tail was caught. Leaving her there Coyote took the carcass, and ran into the hills, laughing. "You should have accepted your fortune, Cougar." Cougar hissed and sputtered, but there was nothing she could do. So Coyote quit telling fortunes, and resumed tricking others out of their food. That was the way it was supposed to be done after all.
