Four nights. It had been four long nights since the hurricane had started blasting outside and tensions were running very high in the now cramped lower level of the Fort. Between the flooding, the constant raging noise and crashes outside, Neela and Tony’s overly protective nature of the pups, Hadley and Amatha’s rescue and food running short the Sole was beginning to feel the all too familiar bubbling of his blood as his patience slowly ran thin. He had retrieved to the small room that Aly and him had claimed for the little solitude it granted him. Laying on the bed he could easily hear the grumbling of members and the quiet cries of his grandchildren.

The Sun King was a sensitive soul that had learned to keep himself put together over years of experience but all he wanted was what was best for his pack, for his children, his grandchildren, his mate and his friends. He was suppose to be a protector yet here he was useless and at the mercy of a bloody storm. He wondered how the artisans were doing, how was Skye coping with the two little pups and an entire pack to protect by herself? He would have to make the time to travel with a group to check on them once the storm cleared. The Sole wanted to be there for his pack but he was torn, how could he protect everyone? How could he be an ideal leader and friend for everyone? It was simply impossible.

A knock and soft voice from the door calmed his raging mind for all but a moment as he called back gently, “Come in love.” As gracefully as the large man could he sat up and put his feet on the floor, his golden eyes looking softly at the door as it was opened. Although the thoughts still turned in his head he dare not worry his mate with his thoughts, she was already learning how to be an alphess as it was and he was sure she didn’t need any more pressure.
