building anew
#4
The pale councilman and his son had spent the morning attempting to salvage what they could from the ruins of his house.  By late afternoon, they'd been joined by a strange male who had asked politely if they wouldn't mind helping construct new houses. Tal, kind soul he was, offered use of the ruins of his house for pieces of the new houses being built. Tal had yet to have the hit meal he needed, but normalcy had been mostly restored by a night of sleep. The sleep had been interrupted by nightmares of being trapped in the rubble again, but otherwise had been restorative for him.

They hadn't lost anyone in the hurricane that he knew of. Even Sheba's kittens had appeared this morning, relieving the calico cat of her constant pacing and worried mutters.

Tal glanced across the square where Temo was moving wood. The snow hued scholar lifted his voice and a free hand. "Hey. One of y'all wanna come pound a few nails with me? Could use some help with attaching these supports to each other."

His voice was friendly enough, his tail wagging slightly. He would have done it himself, but had left the hammer a good distance away as he'd worked to get the two supports together to nail. Normally, a hammer would be hanging from a strap on his jeans. However, the only pair of jeans he had were encrusted in filth from his time buried under the rubble of his house. He hadn't had time to clean them yet. The pale scholar already missed them, he mused with a sort of half laugh to himself.
