Vesper blinked water out of her eyes, shaking her head in frustration. She was glad for her small Lupus frame, one that might’ve been slender but at least kept her close to the ground. The very slightly taller collie beside her stumbled slightly with a breeze, his soaked black fur pressing against her, but she only nudged him back onto his feet and continued to stalk around the edges of the moorland with the dog hybrid in tow. She could sense his displeasure, but he was keeping his mouth shut rather than complaining, again showing that he was more mature than he seemed.
She felt like they needed to do this, though. The whole of Inferni couldn’t just hole themselves up in their decrepit mansions and caves; they needed a few members to hunt and to search for those lost and injured, to make sure the whole of the territory wasn’t destroyed. Even outsiders could pose a problem, as Ves had found when she welcomed the Anatheman coyote into the territory, though Pride hadn’t caused issues and was sheltered in the cave now for all Ves knew.
The Centurion glanced at her companion. “If we’re lucky, we’ll find a deer or something at the edge of the moorland, maybe stuck in the mud and easy to haul back out.”
“And if we get stuck?” Asher replied, his voice devoid of its usual floatiness and mirth but not overtly sarcastic, either. Vesper didn’t answer.
Her attention was taken suddenly by a large form crossing the wet moors, one that stood out for its bright ginger fur. She stared in surprise then yapped for Asher to follow her, making use of their lighter forms to run across the mud, keeping as much as they could to any area that wasn’t completely saturated. The gunk sucked at their paws, and the coydog stumbled a few times while Vesper fought desperately for balance.
“Alma, what are you doing?” she growled at the Armorum, coming to a halt near her. Asher skidded to a stop as well, overbalanced, and fell in the mud.
