He makes advances till his wheels cease to roll

There were some things more terrible than the loss of a mother. Siv’s hands, a shade of night darker than the storm-cloud color of her pelt, hid the blood but she knew it was there. She had done what needed done to ensure that one of the children would live. To not speak of the boy made him unreal. In the feral and ancient ways of old things she had consumed his essence and forgotten. No one would ever know. Siv Helsi was a woman who kept her secrets, and secrets she had many. They reflected in scarlet pinpricks in otherwise purple eyes, which glowed maroon in the firelight. Ancient things live within her indeed.

Her milk would provide for them as it would her own children, and Siv knew she would need to begin taking herbs as soon as possible. This winter would be difficult…but she had Gale now, didn’t she? And his daughter could assist with the babies. Their value tripled in her mind and she was now deeply glad she had decided to keep him.

Deep heat radiated from her body, aided by the fire. She was further glad for Itachi’s warmth, though not for herself. She made no motion to urge him away, no sign that his close quarters violated any pretense of rank. These were his children. She would have done no less.

Yet she was a woman who was raised and live by a code of brutality that had carried her over thousands of miles. Mercy was tempered by reason, not emotion. “She died as a warrior,” Siv said quietly. Her voice rang truthful, for in her heart she believed there was no battle greater than that of birth.
