Tharin was completely and utterly miserable. Yet another female in New Dawn had gone into heat. Life was easier in the arctic. All the females went into heat at the same time. He only had to wait a single season before the torment was over. Here though, it never seemed to end. He'd get a couple weeks respite, and then someone else would have their turn in season. It didn't help that he was now the beta, with Zalen trusting him with many of the pack's needs. Even worse, it meant that Zalen might see him as a threat if he went sniffing around females that were in heat. He'd already gotten into plenty of trouble when Adonia had entered heat, not that he'd known that she'd been Zalen's female.
The scent did make him edgy in a way that was difficult to run off. He hunted, he patrolled, he did everything that he could think of to take off the restless need that was burning inside him. Tharin had already run a good distance, even leaving New Dawn for a stretch before turning back around. Growling softly to himself he walked through, heading for the meadow. It was a nice peaceful place, thanks to Fayne's constant presence. Thinking of her normally cooled him down, since she was such a gentle spirit. Not even that was working today. His thoughts turned to Kiara, of what she would think if one of these times he just gave in. The sorrow on her face had been painful the last time. He could picture her, smell her. It would be another splinter in him, even though he didn't know why it hurt...
The cry of various crows brought him out of it, realizing that he really was smelling Kiara. Tharin trotted over to where she was, watching curiously as she chased after the birds. It looked like she was having an amazing time. With fall coming she wasn't sweltering in the heat either. Tharin trotted up to her, watching her active form. She was beautiful. The burning urge to sate himself swelled up again. Possessively he trotted up to Kiara, nuzzling against her and tugging at her body.
