Nier was enjoying life now. The hurricane had passed and things were looking up. Sure winter was on the way and he was a little worried about their food stocks, but they had new members, the village was fixed, the sacred grove was being repaired, he'd got himself a horse from freetown and he and Grace were more in love than ever. She had really blossomed the later she had gotten into the pregnancy, her belly swelling more and more and her mood lightening. She had the odd moody day when the pups seemed to be content to dance on their mothers bladder, or to practice their paw to paw combat and smack her ribs about, but most days she was fine. It was with a smile and a kiss that he left her that morning, his handpaws resting on her belly briefly before he brought his muzzle down to kiss the belly too. She swatted at him as he looked up at her, cerulean eyes burning with love and affection, her ocean ones filled with mirth and joy. It wouldn't be long now, about two weeks till the pups were born and neither of them could wait. But what Grace wasn't telling Niernan was that she was terrified of giving birth. She had heard that Colibri, the earthen hued wolfess she had noticed in Saul's house during the hurricane, had nearly died giving birth. She hid it well though, Nier was none the wiser.

The village was quiet when he emerged, it seemed other Vinattans were either out and about or having a lie in. He peered through his brothers window and found the hill house empty. It was unlike Bran to see in the morning, usually lying in as long as possible, but perhaps his brother was taking on more responsibility. Speaking of responsibility, he should be patrolling. He set off at a jog, wanting to patrol down near the beach today. It wasn't long before his footpaws felt silky sand underneath them and he revelled in the feeling, the dry particles clinging to his thickening fur and slipping between his toes. His gaze drifted over to the briny water, wondering just how cold it was right now. He was about to run headlong into it to find out when a broken harmony of howls reached him. His head snapped up and around to the western border, his ears perked to better hear the two toned howl. He identified two distinct voices, one high and feminine, the other low and hoarse, almost definitely male. His paws carried him forward almost unconsciously, taking him towards the call. He had no way of telling who it was on the border. He was hoping for a peaceful interaction, maybe potential joiners, rather than a hostile encounter. He couldn't help but think of Sangi'lak when he thought of hostile encounters, the tales of the meetings with them, and his own meeting with their Issor not providing a positive base for his thoughts about the neighbouring pack.

The border loomed nearer and he saw two forms, one stood behind the other with pale handpaws placed on the shoulders of the smaller, pied form. He slowed to a walk as he approached and allowed a smile to form on his lips, the skin of his muzzle lifting to show his white teeth in his happiness to meet new people. He waved as he was still approaching, eventually holding out his handpaw for one or both of them to take. "Greetings travellers, you've reached the borders of Vinatta. I'm Niernan Stormbringer, Vald of Vinatta. How can I aid you?" He spoke, his Irish lilted voice genial and polite. He cocked his head in curiosity as he drank in the strangers appearances, they looked a little strange, with their flowing fur and odd adornments, but they also seemed to hold themselves in a way that denoted bruises under the fur. His mind shot back to the neighbouring pack and their negative attitude towards dogs. Shiloh had told him of her meeting with one of the Sangi'lak pack and the young collie girl, now part of their pack,. So he was concerned that the pack may have accosted this pair and harmed them. He wouldn't mention this curiosity, not wanting to offend, but he couldn't help the wonder shining in his bright cerulean eyes.
