Darkness swam in his veins, in his very being, he had always been that way and as he moved around the youngster, he felt her head bump against his side and back quarters a little. He hadn't been expecting it, and for just a second, his bravado, his dark energy faded. At that moment, as the young female nuzzled against him, his dangerous smirk regressed into something of a warm smile. However it was shortlived and by the time he circled back around to her front, the dark grin was back. He heard the pup's declaration that when she grew bigger, she'd be better able to protect the pack, and he knew it was the truth - he could see she had the right attributes to make a good fighter. She had the spirit for it, certainly. But as the youngster said she wasn't scared of him, his darkness faded a little more. Maybe in the future she would get to see what he was like firsthand. Kai was aggressive, violent, stubborn and usually cold towards strangers.

The young pup told the male her name, and just as he had been about to reply, his head lifted and his eyes landed upon his Angela, the Alpha of Anathema. Her high rank caused Kai's head to bow softly in recognition of her and he stepped back from the pup, letting Aeron look over the female. He snorted a little at his Angela's comment about leaving circling to the hawks but kept his feral yellow eyes upon the newcomer, watching her closely. He knew she wasn't afraid of him, but of course, he had only been testing her nerve. If he had really wanted her scared, he would have become a lot more aggressive towards her, snapping his jaws and taking bites from her.

Kai knew that not many understood his rank and specialization, how they could go hand in hand, how others thought it odd that a large male could be both fascinated in torture and pain, while at the same time be so interested in pregnant females, in birth and pups. But to him, it was fairly straight forward - it wasn't death he was fascinated with, it was life. Both the start of it and the end of it. Both ends of the same cycle. Being pack Torturer satisfied his darker elements while being caretaker satisfied his protective side. It was why he could tear someone apart one moment and the next, be so protective and caring towards another. Two sides of the same coin. He was the same way with Axelle - they could argue and fight and yet within minutes he could be so attentive, so affectionate towards her.

Kai knew that in the presence of his Alpha, that he had to behave himself and so as he watched the two females, the protective side of him seemed to flare - his Alpha and potential new packmate pup. Kai would do anything his Alpha told him to do, without question, like an obediant attack dog and already, he felt he would do the same for this youngster. He would protect her if she needed, he would help teach her, he would take her under his wing, like a big brother of sorts. Breaking his silence, his eyes turned to Aeron, still with a slightly bowed head, showing his submission to her. "I was just about to call you, Aeron. I was just about to ask her if she planned on joining us..."
