"I'll be good," At first, the dog thought this woman was mocking her with her questions. She didn't seem to have a warm tint to her words like the wolf did.. For a moment, her hopeful mood was dirtied with fear. Le lowered her head, aiming her eyes at her chest. She took in a deep breath, then brought her head back up. When the Angela spoke to the other grown-up, she referred to him as Malakai. She glanced back at the man, both putting a face to the name and looking for reassurance.
Leilah wrinkled her nose when she smelt the blood. Usually she found the crimson liquid to have an alluring smell, but this was not the case when it came to the blood of other canines. She observed as the yellow coyote drew this silver blade across her hand, inflicting avoidable harm to herself. She found it a bit confusing, but as she thought more about the matter, she realized it was similar to when she had gotten her nose clamp. This piece of jewelry did not penetrate the skin, but it was still painful at first. "It has to be very tight in order for it not to fall off" her mother had said. The reasoning they had given her for the gold coloured object was that it would make her very beautiful. She had such trust in her family that she never again questioned them about it afterwards.
Could she trust this girl, too? Leilah was uncertain of the answer. Malakai stood behind her, "To stop me from leaving?" She wondered. The threat of pain would throw most off, but she simply recognized it as a necessity. Le lifted her paw, offering it to the lady. A feeling of unsureness surged through her, but as quickly as the emotional response began, it went away. If she hoped for these people to take her in, she had to allow herself to be vulnerable. It felt like she was baring her stomach to a hungry beast, and it was hard to suspect what would happen next. Would Angela cut her too, or decorate her fur with the blood? Either way, it seemed like some sort of a joining ritual.
