His panic and fear were palpable as he tried to get his legs to move faster. He often considered himself brave, desperately wanted to slay dragons and rescue maidens (whatever they were) like those in Mama's stories. He longed for the day that he was big enough to perform such feats, but for now, he was frightened. He wanted to run and hide, to huddle under his mother and let her deal with this mud monster. How he hadn't seen it, he had no idea. His name was called, dark brown ears flickering back to catch the words. At the same time, he picked up on the thump of paws on the ground and for a moment, he thought it was coming for him.
Instead of the dark, oozing monster he'd considered, the golden wolf who'd warned him about said monster stepped in front of him. He skidded, narrowly avoiding contact with the wolf, breath panting out of him. The words rang in his ears and he paused, his little head whipping back and forward. He could see no monster and thought perhaps the male had it right. He cowered still, unwilling to really turn around. But the other male was speaking again and Pascal perked up. "Weally?" He breathed, the disbelief, and hope, lightening his voice to an almost whisper. "I's look scawy!" He turned in a quick movement, a 'ferocious' growl coming from him.
