Neela’s tail hung limp behind her as she trotted towards Hadley’s house, her ears twitching from the worry and frustration that the small, furry bundle in her mouth prevented her from expressing audibly. Isla had seemed to be getting better but had taken a sudden turn for the worse which left her in her current state; dangling limply by her scruff from Neela’s mouth, mostly only moving to cough or whimper. Isla’s decline had been sudden and shocking, bad enough that Neela had decided the situation couldn’t wait until the morning.
Luca, Grynn and Callum padded along with her. Young as they were they had still picked up on the fact that something was wrong with their sister and their mood was subdued as such; where normally they would be running around and yipping excitedly now they were walking along quietly, keeping underneath Neela’s stomach or close to her legs.
For the first time Neela was cursing the abuse she had put her body through. The physical effects, her spindly limbs and protruding ribs, were still visible though not as bad, but it was the effect it had on her shifting that caused the most trouble. Neela had been in Lupus form ever since the hurricane, lacking the energy to go through the ordeal of shifting. Usually this wasn’t a problem as Lupus was much more convenient for nursing – four pups and two nipples wasn’t a good combination – and playing with the pups but now she really wished she had hands to easier transport Isla. Not feeling like she was going to keel over at any second from exhaustion would also be nice.
Finally Hadleys door came info view. Thankfully Neela stepped forwards and started scratching at the door, trying to get some attention. Impatient and beyond caring about waking people up Neela then placed Isla gently down and reared her head up, barking loudly at the door.
