She could only watch as the two males ran into the hole that they girls had made. Anu shot after the hare, sure that they would not leave empty handed, they pups would be fine, and that she would not leave a wounded animal to suffer.
Rabbit in mouth she dashed back to find the pups recovering from their collision. The only one unscathed was Brooklyn, who looked content with the rabbit kit in her mouth and as proud as possible. She placed the dead hare on the ground before the rest of the litter, eyes on Nani. She wandered if the exercise had been worth the effort.
Haven broke her concentration and pounced on the dead rabbit, and took its neck in his mouth. Half dragging half caring it he trotted off in the opposite direction of the cave. Salem joined him, taking one of the limbs in his jaw, tail high with pride. The brown female followed her brothers but turned then around so their noses pointed toward home.
