the fire inside

Firefly hadn't killed the puppy from Crimson Dreams, which was a pity. She'd left the miserably thing on the ice and had heard the commotion as one of his own damn packmates or some stranger had come to the rescue. She had such high hopes that the ice would have broke when she'd flung his small frame onto the surface but she just wasn't having any luck this season. She'd taken her time walking back to the packlands that night and it seemed that once more Haku was off again on whatever sly little adventure he thought he was getting away with. She didn't even stop at his home when she realized that he wasn't there, instead she set off towards the vineyards and the cottage she'd used as her home until their mateship.

...And over a month later the female was still hiding out in the vineyards and avoiding her mate on the patrols along the borders. The Acer of Dahlia de Mai knew that the swelling of her belly had nothing to do with overeating and enjoying extra kills as she patrolled and it had put her in a foul mood. She just loved how Haku had taken to the news so maturely and had treated her like she was at fault for the events that had taken place after their mateship. She snorted at the thought and hoped that perhaps the attack from the bear had done just the thing to fix all their problems. Puppies here and puppies there.. she doubted he would care eitherway. If they lived he'd probably make certain it wasn't for long or that he didn't have anything to do with them. She knew he'd never exactly shown any interest in children and it was obvious to any that knew him that he wasn't exactly the best wolf suited for the job as father. She just shook her head and growled to herself as she leapt onto a boulder with a grunt to sit and glare at the forsty snowbound world about her.

Her mind for some reason had trailed back to the child she'd hoped who would have died out on the ice of the lake but obviously didn't. Just over a moon ago she'd tried to kill a child and just days before today she'd tried to save the life of one of the mouthiest creatures she'd ever known. Though she did wander back and forth between Haku's place and hers there was atleast solitude and silence in the home she had away from her mate. She growled softly at the thought and wondered if she'd even see the damned male before the puppies came around. She doubted it but sometimes the bastard surprised her.
